There are many beautiful garden areas at Descanso Gardens, and each botanical garden offers something unique. The wedding ceremony and reception may only take place in the Rose Garden or Boddy House, but you and your guests can still enjoy the natural beauty of all of the gardens featured at Descanso Gardens! Rose Garden

Descanso’s Rose Garden is truly a beautiful unique space! The garden offers over 1,600 roses planted in 5.5 scenic acres and surrounded by majestic coast live oak (live oak forest) and sycamore trees that provide an enchanting backdrop for the special flowers growing there. And what makes this place extra-special? Descanso grows their roses organically without pesticides or herbicides - with help from pollinators and predatory insects who feast on companion plants like chaste tree, pincushion flower, daffodils, spuria irises, seasonal annuals…and more! The garden traces plant evolution from seed-bearing plants—the gymnosperms—to angiosperms or flowering plants; showing how diverse life forms were while dinosaurs roamed this world long ago. Opening in 2015 as a tribute to these ancient wonders of nature, the Ancient Forest provides not only insight but also admiration for their tenacity over millions of years! California Garden

In 1959, landscape enthusiast Theodore Payne expertly curated a striking 8-acre California Garden. Manchester Boddy, founder of Descanso Gardens and the visionary behind the historic home that bears his name, wanted to provide a luxurious lifestyle for his expanding family - so he commissioned James E. Dolena of Los Angeles to create The Boddy House; an exquisite structure perched atop a hill which offers visitors stunning views across its picturesque gardens below.

Sturt Haaga Gallery

Situated on the Descanso property, Frederick Fisher & Partners' innovative architecture joins forces with history and modernity. The combination of a renovated Boddy House along with two complementary gallery spaces from a garage structure — one boasting 12-foot ceilings to display larger works — creates an inviting 1,500 square feet of immersive art experience complemented by the Erskine Garden for sculpture viewing as well as event hosting.

The gallery building offers an awe-inspiring exterior with its two towering vertical gardens - providing a unique visual that promotes appreciation and exploration of the surrounding environment. To top it off, visitors to Hope's Garden are delighted by a surprise oasis of native plants gracing the roof of the gallery.

Descanso Gardens Wedding

On your wedding day, the Rose Garden and Boddy House Lawn may be the location of the wedding ceremony, while the Rose Pavilion or Boddy House Terrace may host the wedding reception.

Couples can choose to have both their wedding ceremony and wedding reception at Descanso Gardens, or choose to have one or the other at the venue.

Included as part of a Descanso Gardens wedding package are detailed meetings with the Special Events Office, a one hour rehearsal at the ceremony site, a ceremony site bridal room for dressing, admission at 3 pm for photography, liability insurance for you and your guests, and tables & chairs.
