A Trip Down Mario Lane

The world of Super Mario is no stranger to gamers. With characters like Mario, Luigi, the beloved Princess Peach, and the rest of the gang from the Super Mario world, the franchise has been a staple in the gaming community for decades. This time, players are whisked away to the Flower Kingdom, a new, vibrant world that offers a refreshing change of pace from the familiar Mushroom Kingdom.

In the new Super Mario Bros Wonder game, the team's task is once again to thwart the villainous Bowser's plans. However, in a twist of events, Bowser has transformed himself into a massive, menacing castle, causing havoc in the Flower Kingdom. Players must navigate through the beautiful but chaotic Flower Kingdom, meeting its charming floral denizens and facing off against novel enemies in a journey to defeat Castle Bowser!

The Wonder of Super Mario Bros Wonder Gameplay

Traditional elements of Mario gameplay are revisited and revamped in Super Mario Wonder, creating a dynamic and engaging gaming experience. As one of the eight playable characters - Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Toad, Toadette, Nabbit, and Yoshi - players will navigate the game's stages with assistance from the Flower Kingdom's friendly, talking flowers.

At its core, the game is a side-scrolling platform game, with the player guiding their chosen character from left to right while avoiding enemies and collecting power-ups. But what sets Super Mario Wonder apart from its predecessors is its innovative use of Wonder Flowers and Wonder Seeds, which are game changing items.

Wonder Flowers and Wonder Seeds

The Wonder Flower, a unique power-up in Super Mario Wonder, is a game-changer, literally. When a player collects a Wonder Flower, it triggers dramatic changes in the level, completely altering the gameplay in unpredictable and delightful ways. You can even witness pipes coming alive!

Wonder Flowers play a central role by introducing a fresh mechanic that significantly enhances the gameplay experience. These enchanting flowers serve as power-ups and upon collection, activate what are known as "Wonder Effects." These effects either alter the mechanics within a level or transform the player character in a certain way, adding a layer of excitement and intrigue to the gameplay.

For instance, Mario could gain the ability to swim through lava, or he might transform into a Goomba or a giant spiky ball. The level itself could change, with green pipes coming alive or the entire stage turning into a musical. These unexpected twists make for an engaging and dynamic gaming experience, keeping players on their toes.

Also, Super Mario Bros Wonder dynamically integrates music with its gameplay, creating a more immersive experience particularly when "Wonder Effects" are triggered by the Wonder Flowers. The music shifts to accompany these effects, underscoring the whimsical and unexpected transformations happening on screen.

New Power-Ups and Characters

Super Mario Wonder introduces new power-ups and characters, adding an element of surprise to the gameplay. Players can transform into Elephant Mario, smashing through bricks and enemies, or use a Bubble Flower power-up to blow bubbles that defeat enemies and serve as temporary platforms. There's also a Drill Mushroom that allows players to drill through the ground and ceiling to explore new areas.

The game also introduces badges, which can be unlocked throughout the game. These badges can give the player's character different perks, allowing players to tailor their gameplay to their preferences. With Action Badges, Boost Badges, and Expert Badges available, players are given a wealth of choices that can drastically shake up the gameplay.

Elephant Power

The Elephant Power is one of the standout features of "Super Mario Bros Wonder." When a character collects this power-up, they transform into an anthropomorphic elephant, gaining a powerful trunk they can use to swing around as a melee attack. This transformation allows characters to break bricks, activate hidden blocks on the ground, and collect water in their trunk, which can be used to solve certain puzzles by providing water to dried plants.

Drill Power

The Drill Power grants characters a drill-shaped helmet that provides a level of defense against enemies landing on top of them. Activating the drill power allows characters to burrow into the ground, becoming invulnerable to all damage and accessing hidden areas. Exiting the ground counts as an attack, breaking blocks, and your ground pound changes to a more powerful form where you drill downwards with great force.

Bubble Power

Bubble Power is described as the most lethal power-up in Super Mario Bros Wonder. Upon acquiring this power-up, characters can generate bubbles that, upon contact, will absorb and instantly eliminate enemies, including those previously invulnerable like Ghosts and Dry Bones. The bubbles can also go through walls, allowing characters to eliminate unreachable enemies, and can also be used as platforms to advance through the game.

Fire Power

The Fire Power, a classic power-up, allows characters to throw fireballs that can bounce off floors and walls to defeat enemies. Though not the most powerful offensive option, it provides a range advantage, making it a safe and reliable choice for tackling enemy encounters.

Super Mushroom

The Super Mushroom, a staple in Mario games, enlarges characters, allowing them to reach high-placed blocks and endure an extra hit before being defeated. Some levels in Super Mario Bros Wonder have this as the only available power-up. Once characters are in this enlarged state, they can access other power-ups available within the levels.

Multiplayer Fun

Super Mario Wonder isn't just a single-player game. Up to four players can team up locally on one Nintendo Switch system, racing through the game's diverse worlds together. A new multiplayer online play functionality allows players to take their adventure online, making the game an enjoyable experience for friends and family worldwide.
